I’m interested in how markets shape the buying and selling of fresh food – and how market exchange processes transform this food into the ‘special’ market produce. The fresh food and veg on sale in Newcastle’s Grainger Market, UK is contrasted with what is on sale on the neighbouring farmers’ market. Some people shop on both markets and find good quality produce at reasonable prices, some find the farmers’ market prices too high, others want the ‘fresh picked’ quality of the local, seasonal produce on the farmers’ market.
