13 July 2014 – Ridley Road Market, East London – photographed by Lorenzo Vitturi

Ridley Road Market in Dalston, East London is a lively street market selling a mix of  global food spanning Africa, the Caribbean and Asia. Photographer, Lorenzo Vitturi’s book – ‘Dalston Anatomy‘ captures some of this vibrancy through his images of ‘surreal organic shapes’. He says he wanted to  ‘recreate the identity of the market’ before gentrification robs it of its hustle and bustle and endless creativity. Hackney Council has recently announced plans to introduce a ‘broadly uniform look and feel to the market’ and Vitturi says, ‘I guess I am trying to show how precious it is, as well as how precarious. It is the kind of place we take for granted until suddenly it is gone.’
