There is going to be an open workshop (open to the public and in the public marketplace) about how to improve the New Esquilino Market in Rome as part of the Rome Biennial of Public Space.
· May 20th, 2015, 9:00 – 15:00, Via Principe Amedeo 184, Rome
The workshop is a collaboration between groups in Amsterdam, Delft and Rome and the organizers say:
This one-day event aims to re-think the role of marketplaces in supporting public life of today’s cities from several aspects: How do marketplaces create a vivid public space? How can they work as inclusive places for economically vulnerable groups? How can they enhance place identities? How do they transform neighborhoods where they are located?
The workshop consists of a guided Field Trip in Nuovo Mercato Esquilino, followed by a World Café Session, where local and international experts will reflect on the existing problems that the market faces. The workshop is free and open to the public.
Organising committee: Freek Janssens (University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands); Ceren Sezer (Delft University of Technology / Urban4, the Netherlands); and Maria Grazia Montella (La Sapienza University, Rome, Italy).
